The arrival of spring not only brings warmer weather, but also hot new fashion trends, making now the perfect time to get inspired and treat yourself to a new wardrobe and a spring perfume (or two!) to match. The Perfume Shop’s fragrance expert, Michael Edwards, reveals how to update your fragrance by coordinating your scent with three of our favourite new-season fashion trends…
Update your fragrance: Trend #1 The stripy squad
Horizontal, vertical, zigzag – super-stripes stole the show on the runways of Missoni, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Roksanda and Jonathan Saunders. And they came in an array of fresh, sunny colours, including canary yellow, grass green, sky blue and peach. To partner these prints and palettes with the perfect perfume, make a nod to the nautical, outdoorsy vibe with an aquatic, citrus or green fragrance.
‘Think notes of violet leaf, galbanum, mandarin, bergamot and marine,’ says Michael. The good news is that these fresh fragrances are so light and crisp, there’s no such thing as spraying too much – hurrah!

Update your fragrance: Trend #2 The feminine squad
With Prairie dresses at Valentino, scalloped lace at Céline and slinky silk slip dresses at Saint Laurent and Dior, it’s officially time to unleash your sultry side. And this trend comes in two extremes: soft and delicate with frills, lace and baby-doll layers, or you can bring back sexy with underwear as outerwear, off-the-shoulder necklines and see-through fabrics. One thing’s for sure – these styles are made for feminine floral fragrances.
For the softer side of this style, go for a creamy floral fragrance with elegant notes of gardenia. Want to spice things up? ‘Opt for powdery notes of lilac and heliotrope,’ says Michael.

Update your fragrance: Trend #3 The colourful squad
From hot pink at Diane von Furstenberg and neon orange at Hermès to clashing combinations at Kenzo, the catwalks came alive with vivid flashes of colour. And with these vibrant fabrics guaranteed to hit the high street, next season is shaping up to be a bright one! Whether you keep your look minimal with one splash of colour, like Prada’s neon-blue drop earrings, or go all out à la Christopher Kane’s rainbow patchwork dress, these statement shades require a scent that packs the same punch.
‘Fragrances containing oud, exotic woods, warm spices and lush fruity notes are perfect for this colour palette,’ says Michael. Full-bodied and formidable, they’ll make sure no one will miss your grand entrance into the room.
