Perfume review: Valentino Uomo Acqua

There’s the classic Valentino Uomo, an Italian blend of coffee and myrtle liquor, Valentino Uomo Intense, which is just as the name suggests (oozing vanilla and tonka bean) – and now Valentino Uomo Acqua has arrived on the scene. It’s a fresh new scent that was totally made for summer…

As soon as I smell it, I’m taken to Sorrento on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, where the turquoise water glistens in the sun and elegant men meet for a morning coffee. They’re the ones wearing this fragrance, but also the locals who commute by motorbike to their day’s work. And, trust me, these are the guys who are desired by any onlooker. Just the smell of them makes us girls go weak at the knees. Does it get better than that? The answer’s no.

Valentino Uomo Acqua opens with citrus notes of mandarin and green tomato, followed by sage and patchouli at its heart, and undertones of leather and iris. I can totally imagine a man wearing this for a date night – after all, it’s super-charming.

And it’s perfect to take on your next holiday. With less of a gourmand, milky smell than its Valentino brothers, Uomo Acqua was made for lounging by the pool (with a beer in hand, of course) and dining by the sea. Once you smell it, all you’ll be able to say is ‘Ahhh’. Trust me.

You can’t ignore the bottle, either. With its iconic studded glass, Uomo Acqua is a light shade of green – inspired by the crispness of the citrus notes.

This is in my good books, people. And since aquatic, citrus scents are ALWAYS in for summer, you can’t really wish for anything more…
