Issey Miyake is born in Hiroshima, Japan.

1965

He studies graphic design at University in Tokyo, where he graduates, then moves to Paris. Miyake trains at an haute couture fashion house, before taking an apprenticeship at Givenchy.

1970

Issey Miyake returns to Japan and opens the Miyake Design Studio, making Japanese fashion.

1971

He shows his first collection in New York. Issey Miyake loves experimenting and exploring with fashion – he makes clothes out of plastic, paper and even woven grass!

1974

The first Issey Miyake store opens in Tokyo.

1992

Issey Miyake brings out his first fragrance, L’Eau d’Issey for her, an aquatic floral with notes of rose and lillies. AND it’s the same year that The Perfume Shop launches – how spesh?

1994

Of course, the men get a little jealous, so Issey Miyake creates L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme, which smells of mandarin, nutmeg and cinnamon. Mmm!

2001

Cauliflower, a fashion collection of one-size-fits-all T-shirts, launches, inspired by mojitos from Cuba.

Issey Miyake Nuit d’Issey for him arrives. It’s a fresh and woody blend of grapefruit, spices and tonka bean, giving an instant energy boost.

2016

Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey Pure. Enough said. The mix of orange blossom, jasmine and rose is to die for. We love.

2017

Issey Miyake presents his A/W17 collection in Paris. The show, titled Chromatic Fantasia is full of inspiration from the Aurora Borealis (the Northern Lights), through woven colours and materials.

Happy summer! Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey Summer (for her) leaves women everywhere smelling of lychee, passion fruit and guava, while Pour Homme Summer (for him) oozes grapefruit and pineapple. How tropical!
