Master perfumer Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain opens his first shop in Paris. He starts building a great reputation, making bespoke perfumes for Napoléon III and Queen Victoria.

1864

Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain dies, and his two sons, Aimé and Gabriel, take over. Aimé acts as Master Perfumer, passing on his skills to nephew Jacques.

1919

Jacques creates Mitsouko, a perfume masterpiece marrying fruity notes of peach with jasmine and rose. The base notes of cinnamon and vetiver make it a mysterious, velvety scent. To this day, we’re massive fans.

1925

Guerlain launches Shalimar, which is a huge success. It’s inspired by the love story behind the Taj Mahal and smells of iris, rose, vanilla and tonka bean. It becomes an instant classic – everyone knows and loves Shalimar. During his time as a perfumer, Jacques also created lipstick and kohl eye pencil, extending the Guerlain brand into makeup.

1989

Samsara is the new perfume on the Guerlain shelves, and women go wild for its woody oriental charm. It blends rose, vanilla, ylang-ylang and sandalwood. Mmm!

Guerlain-La_petite_Robe_noire2012

La Petite Robe Noire is the new kid on the block. It puts us in a fruity frenzy, thanks to its notes of cherry, apple and blackcurrant. Now, who’s hungry?

2017

A top-secret new fragrance is about to launch, and it’s set to be the biggest one yet. Prepare to be wowed and totally inspired by its muse, Angelina Jolie. We predict a riot for this one, guys.
