Need an excuse for a new perfume this month girls? Well, with summer on its way, The Perfume Shop’s fragrance expert Michael Edwards gives you the lowdown on the perfumes that match the summer catwalk trends from around the world…
Update your fragrance: Trend #1 Latin Glamour
Thanks to the crimson gowns, black lace and floral embroidery at the Oscar de la Renta Spring/Summer 2016 show, the sophisticated Latino look is officially coming to wardrobes near you. It’s all about the elegant flamenco look: red lips, silk dresses and centre partings. You’ll need a strong floral perfume to match this sexy look.
‘Keep an eye out for notes of white florals such as tiare, gardenia and tuberose this summer,’ says Michael. ‘And tropical fruity notes of passion fruit, guava and mango will do the trick for that extra kick.’

Update your fragrance: Trend #2 Italian Chic
The elegance of Italy graced the catwalk at the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2016 show. We spotted floral embroidery, Sicilian lemon prints, black and white stripes and baroque headpieces, inspired by Capri, Venice, Rome and limoncello. But models taking selfies on the catwalk? We weren’t expecting that! Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana wanted to portray the reality of selfies in everyday life – and a zesty perfume is all you’ll need to complement this Italian summer style.
‘Look out for bergamot, lime and lemon in traditional perfumes but also cool spices such as ginger and pink pepper for a contemporary twist,’ says Michael.

Update your fragrance: Trend #3 Tribal Style
Take inspo from the Valentino Spring/Summer 2016 catwalk and get ready to be inspired by Africa. The trend’s all about the ethnic prints, traditional folk art and wild animals, with black and white dresses, khaki quills and white peacock feathers. We love it so much we can’t wait to show our wild side. And what better way to do that than with a perfume? We have just the right ones for you: get ready to embrace your wild side with woody perfumes.
‘Team woody perfumes with spicy notes such as cinnamon or tonka bean, which give an oriental twist,’ says Michael. ‘The addition of rose and gourmand notes add depth and passion to woody fragrances.’

Update your fragrance: Trend #4 Sports Luxe
At the Lacoste Spring/Summer 2016 show, it was all about sophisticated sportswear and celebrating where you’re from. This, along with the national flag designs and bold bomber jackets, got us way too excited for the Olympic Games in Rio! And the stars and stripes representing the USA were everywhere, too, from the miniskirts to the jumpsuit dresses. Show off your energetic and determined side with a fresh sporty fragrance.
‘Sporty fragrances are often defined by lively, invigorating citrus notes and crisp lavender, which also conjures clean, clear qualities,’ says Michael. ‘Don’t overlook the aquatic notes of mint and ginger for an extra hit of energising freshness.’
