A weekend at the Boardmasters Festival with Davidoff

By Tara Lacey

I was lucky enough to attend Boardmasters Festival in Newquay (9-13 August), courtesy of Davidoff – and what a weekend it was!

We arrived on the Friday evening in typical English summer wind and rain, but even that didn’t dampen our spirits or stop us enjoying the prospect of a jam-packed itinerary of events. We were escorted to our luxury glamping tents, and there, outside each of them, were our very own personalised Davidoff surfboards. How cool!

Having never glamped before, I had no idea what to expect. I was met with a type of luxury camping I’ve never experienced before – and it’s safe to say I’ll never be able to do normal camping again. We were well and truly spoiled, with a double bed, full-length mirror and sheepskin rug.

After a quick change, we headed to the seafood restaurant and then to see Two Door Cinema Club on the main stage, where we were able to get on the balcony to watch Something Good Can Work.

On Saturday morning, we were up bright and early for breakfast at The Beach Hut before our surf lesson. Next, it was down to meet Nick from Extreme Academy, where we climbed into our wetsuits and Davidoff rashies, ready to surf.

It was another first for me, and I was a bit apprehensive. But my fears were soon forgotten when Nick took us for a quick warm-up on the beach, getting us to practise our moves before we were ready to hit the waves. And I loved it! I was up on the board on my first go, feeling like a pro. It was clearly beginner’s luck, as I then spent the rest of the time trying to avoid swallowing too much seawater.

As if it couldn’t get any better, we were then transported to the airfield for our private flight in the Davidoff Cool Water Wave branded helicopter. We flew over Newquay and the festival site in glorious sunshine, so we could take full advantage of the incredible views.

Following touchdown, we travelled to Fistral Beach to visit the Davidoff Cool Water Wave stand and check out the surfing virtual-reality experience, which gave us the chance to see what it would be like if you could really surf. We also tested the new Davidoff Cool Water Wave fragrance, which is a clean, woody scent with fruity top notes that give it a really energetic boost. It’s one I would gift to my boyfriend as a perfect everyday scent. While we were there, we managed to catch some of the surf competition on Fistral Beach, before heading back to camp for dinner – this time on a private beach. With the sun low in the sky as we walked down the steps, it looked like a scene straight out of a film.

It was an unforgettable weekend. Thank you, Davidoff!

Davidoff Cool Water Wave is £26.00 for 75ml or £39 for 125ml.
