Today we visited our Wood Green store in London and caught up with the team to talk about all things fragrance…
Here’s what Deputy Manager, Joe had to say:
How long have you worked with The Perfume Shop?
3 ½ years
What would you say is the most rewarding part of your role?
I enjoy managing different people and helping them progress through their roles, from store assistant to supervisor for example. Supporting new starters and helping them develop their knowledge of fragrance is also a great part of my role.
What has your career highlight been?
Being promoted to Deputy Manager.
How do you help a customer who is looking for a new fragrance?
First of all I try to find out as much about the customer as I can, starting with finding out who the fragrance is for. If it is for themselves, I ask which perfumes they’ve used before and have loved. I then try to find out a little about their personality, age range and then when they will be wearing the fragrance i.e. if it’s for everyday use or a special occasion. With this information I can make suggestions tailored to their personal preferences and find a fragrance that matches exactly what they’re looking for.
3 things you love about working at The Perfume Shop:
- Being part of such a big team, there’s 20 of us in total (!) and I really enjoy working with all of them.
- No two days are ever the same.
- I’ve worked my way up from sales assistant and so with each role there’s been new challenges which keep my job interesting.
Give us an interesting fact about perfume:
Every bottle of perfume has its own unique story that’s inspired the fragrance.
What’s your favourite scent? Why? Prada Luna Rossa Sport because it is me – it’s my signature scent and what I’m known for always wearing.

What do you love about working at The Perfume Shop? I really enjoy my job generally but the team I work with are what really make it.

What’s your favourite scent? Why? Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue because it’s light, fresh and uplifting.
What do you love about working at The Perfume Shop? (Leona has been working at the Wood Green store for 8 years!) Interacting with the customers is definitely my favourite part and being able to share my love of perfume.

What’s your favourite scent? Why? Mugler Alien as even though it’s a classic it’s still completely different to any other fragrance.
What do you love about working at The Perfume Shop? Going to the training days for new launches as we learn about the notes and stories behind the fragrances and it’s a place to really develop my knowledge.

What’s your favourite scent? Why? Paco Rabanne Olympea has been my favourite since it launched, it is really long lasting on my skin and the smell is gorgeous.
What do you love about working at The Perfume Shop? I absolutely LOVE perfume! So working with it every day is something I really enjoy and I love talking to customers about their favourites.

What’s your favourite scent? Why? My favourite fragrance is Valentino Uomo Intense because it stands out from all the other perfumes – it’s unique! It embeds a sweet smell and musk together to create something like no other fragrance.
What do you love about working at The Perfume Shop? Meeting new and different people every day and having conversations with customers who are as passionate about perfume as we are, you can’t find that anywhere else.
