How to spray perfume like a pro

By Lauren Carbran

Is there a right way to spray perfume? You bet! And to make things easy, Zoe and Sonia from #TEAMTPS give you their expert tips…

ZOEZoe Harwood-Miller, Supervisor at Worthing

You should moisturise your skin before applying perfume. This is called layering, and at The Perfume Shop we have some lovely body lotions, such as Tom Ford Velvet Orchid Lumiere body lotion and Prada La Femme Prada body cream for her. Then spray your perfume onto your pulse points (wrists, elbows and behind the knees) and let the scents develop with time – preferably this would be a scent that matches your body lotion, like Tom Ford Velvet Orchid Lumiere or Prada La Femme Prada. Never rub in a scent in, as this will bruise it and destroy the molecules.’

‘Perfume works better when it’s sprayed directly onto skin, so always apply it before putting your clothes on. Spray your scent 5-7 inches away from body or chest. Spraying fragrance into the air, then walking through it does very little – it’s better to target the areas that will help the intensity of the scent to last.

‘With daytime fragrances, the possibilities are endless. Spray your feet, knees, inside elbows and hips because scent rises as the day goes on. A spritz of your best-loved scent in the hair will waft as you walk along. Don’t neglect calves, ankles, belly button (yes, belly button), collarbone, behind the ears and cleavage. Having said all that, less is more with fragrance. It should be kept in your own personal space and shouldn’t overwhelm passers-by.’
