Juliette Karagueuzoglou is not your average woman, which is why she was chosen by Coach to create their new eau de parfum, Coach The Fragrance, with fellow perfumer Anne Flipo. And as it’s our new obsession, we spent five minutes with Juliette to find out more…
What’s the fragrance inspired by?
The energy of New York and the sensuality of the Coach brand. It’s a very powerful fragrance – you need to feel good and feminine in it. I love that Chloe Moretz is the face of the scent.
What are its key notes?
At the top you have pink pepper and raspberry leaves, followed by Turkish rose, and at the base is a beautiful blend of suede and musk.
What type of woman would wear this fragrance?
A modern woman of any age.
What was your brief for this fragrance?
I was told to express the Coach brand and keep the American DNA. So the light suede notes link to the iconic Coach leather bag.
How do you create a fragrance inspired by a place?
Well, I used to live in New York, and went to perfumery school there. I know the city well but to prepare even more for this task, I studied the brand, researched numerous images of New York and watched Coach fashion shows.
Which two notes do you think work really well?
The timeless rose and suede musk. They’re textural and blend perfectly together.
What does the smell remind you of?
I wore it while developing the fragrance, so it reminds me of great moments in Paris, where I made it.
What were the challenges?
Taking care not to make the suede musk too dark, and finding the balance with the Turkish rose.
Where and when should a woman wear this fragrance?
It’s long lasting, so it’s great for day and night. Women should wear it when they want to smell casual but elegant, too. It’s not about when to wear it but rather finding your personal print on it. You could wear it forever. It’s certainly a signature scent.
Where does it take you when you smell it?
It takes me to the Coach store in downtown New York.
