5 Minutes with Olivia Newman-Young

By Lauren Carbran

She appeared on our screens in series five of Made In Chelsea, and now she’s back on the scene as a vlogger. Olivia Newman-Young is a professional make-up artist, hairstylist and chef, and – trust us – you’ll want to be her bestie. We caught up with her in Soho, over brekkie, to find out more…

Olivia Newman-YoungWhat’s your signature scent?

It’s hard to decide between Narciso Rodriguez eau de toilette and eau de parfum. I either mix them both or just wear one. I absolutely love them.

How would you describe your style?

Simple and classic. I love a red lip and minimal make-up. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Olivia Palermo are my style inspiration – they always look amazing and natural.

What’s your favourite hairstyle for summer festivals?

I love the low, curled ponytail: it looks effortless and chic. Also, let your bangs out! I cut myself some this morning – I wasn’t doing anything, so I just decided to get the scissors out!

So you’ve got a date coming up and you’re cooking him a meal. What’s on the menu?

Hmm… for starters, scallops on butternut purée with crispy bacon. I’d cook up a beef Wellington for mains and a warm chocolate brownie for dessert. This would probably be more of a third or fourth date menu!

Which perfumes will you be taking on holiday this summer?

I’ll be taking Narciso Rodriguez to my city break in New York as it’s elegant and floral. I’m also heading to Lake Garda, where I’ll be taking my Elie Saab Le Parfum, which I love.

If you had to be anyone else for the day, who would you be?

Good question! I’d be a male, for sure, just to see how a guy lives. And probably a pro surfer who lives on the beach.

What are your everyday make-up essentials?

Foundation, powder and eyebrow pencils. I always make sure I have these in my bag.

What beauty products do the Made In Chelsea girls love?

My sister Fran loves Elie Saab Le Parfum, too! When I’ve done Millie Mackintosh’s makeup, I’ve used Charlotte Tilbury for glowy, dewy skin, which she loves. For Rosie Fortescue, I’ve used Chloé products and lip stainers. In Chelsea, it’s all about having a great base, whether it’s foundation, primer or powder.
