Top 5 dinner party tips

By Lauren Carbran

Autumn = dinner party plans, obviously. And we know it can be a bit of a mare planning EVERYTHING, so that’s why we’re here to help. You’re totally welcome – just make sure we get an invite…

111. Dress to impress

This autumn we’ve fallen for pleated midiskirts, white blouses and patent shoes. And this is the perfect outfit for the hostess, who will want to stand out from the dinner-guest crowd and look unforgettable. Team with a metallic belt and bright nail polish for an overall sexy and sophisticated vibe. Make your finishing touch Hugo Boss The Scent For Her, with its notes of honeyed peach and cocoa. And guys – you can’t go wrong in a navy shirt and sleek grey trousers (as seen on the Hermès AW16 catwalk), especially when matched with Givenchy Gentlemen Only Absolute, with its divine notes of bergamot and sandalwood. Mmm!

222. Wear a compliment-worthy scent

Don’t you just love the compliments you get at dinner parties? ‘Ooh, I love your sofa’, ‘Ooh, what a lovely table’, but hello? It’s the perfume you ACTUALLY want people to notice! So try Marc Jacobs Divine Decadence for her, a warm blend of honeysuckle and champagne (it was obviously made for dinner parties!), or Versace Dylan Blue for him, which mixes fig leaves, black pepper and musk. Trust us, you’ll never look back.

3. DIY table settings

Yep, it’s time to do it yourself, peeps! Why? Because it always looks more impressive. Buy some small flowers, such as lavender and heliotrope, trim the stems and separate them into mini bouquets, then wrap each one with ribbon. Place a mini bouquet at each guest’s table setting – and, voila, you’re sorted. Simple, right? Scatter acorns and pine cones around to complete your dinner party table.

4. Nail the food

Food always counts, but it matters the most at your dinner party. So, no pressure guys. This autumn, we’ll be making carrot and pumpkin soup for starters, mushroom risotto for mains and apple pie for dessert. Now, if that doesn’t inspire you for your dinner party, nothing will. Scrumptious!

5. Post-dinner activities

The food has been eaten, the wine has been drunk… and now all that’s left is to play some games! Here at The Perfume Shop, we’re big fans of Guess The Celebrity. All you need is Post-it notes and a pen. Write a celebrity’s name on a Post-it note and stick it onto a guest’s forehead. The guest then has to guess the celebrity they are, by asking questions. It will put your dinner party into a frenzy, trust us…
