With hundreds of scents available, choosing a new favourite fragrance can often feel a little overwhelming. But what if we told you that it could be so much simpler?

We spoke to Natasha Jordan, Store Manager of The Perfume Shop in Craigavon, to discover her secret for helping customers find their perfect perfume match. It turns out there’s only one important question you need to ask yourself to find your new signature scent…

‘Which perfume do you wear now?’

‘Once I know which perfume the customer currently wears, I can identify the fragrance family they like. Since most of us have quite narrow scent preferences, 99% of the time the customer tends to like other perfumes in that same fragrance family.’

So, take a look at your go-to scent and work out which fragrance family it belongs to. Not sure how to figure that out exactly? Read about the different families below and you’ll soon see which one it fits into. Now go find your new favourite fragrance!

Floral

CHLOE_980_FEATURED_v2

Floral fragrances are the easiest to identify, thanks to their familiar scent of cut flowers. Romantic, elegant and fabulously feminine, these scents include a variety of floral notes, such as jasmine, peony, gardenia, tuberose and lily of the valley.

Oriental

Oriental scents are heavy on the base notes – think sandalwood and vanilla – and are often longer-lasting than most fragrances. Warm and sensual, an oriental perfume feels more grown-up and rich, making it ideal for evening wear.

Fresh

Uplifting, bright, zesty. Fresh fragrances smell clean and airy, making them ideal for the summer months. These scents often feature notes of lemon, bergamot, orange, grapefruit and mandarin.

Gourmand

ARMANI_980_FEATURED_v2

This increasingly popular fragrance family began with the launch of Thierry Mugler Angel. These warming scents blend ‘edible’ notes – think caramel, chocolate, candyfloss, toffee and plenty of vanilla – with a musky base and often smell good enough to eat.
