Thomas Jacob Hilfiger is born on 24 March in New York. His nickname is Tommy. Tommy’s mother works as a nurse and his father is a watchmaker.
1969
Tommy works in a clothes shop in Cape Cod in summer and opens his own store shortly after.
1976
Hilfiger falls in love with one of the employees at his stores, Susie Carona. They get married and move to Manhattan.
1984
Approached by an entrepreneur, Tommy Hilfiger is asked to head a men’s sportswear brand. And he’s allowed to use his own name – winning!
1995
Tommy Hilfiger Tommy cologne launches and takes the world by storm. It combines cranberry, apple pie and cinnamon – and smells almost good enough to eat. Yum!
1996
The first Tommy Hilfiger store opens in Beverly Hills, which is followed by a store in London in 1998.
He launches Tommy Hilfiger Tommy Girl, which is inspired by flowers and plants from American landscapes. It combines camellia flowers, citrus orchards and wild heather.
1999
Tommy Hilfiger showcases his Spring/Summer 2000 collection, which is full of the iconic red, white and blue colours. Cowboy boots and leather jackets are so in!
2004
His spring/summer 2005 catwalk is a more sophisticated collection of blue striped polo-neck dresses and white pleated skirts. We love.
2010
His autumn/winter 2010 collection includes beige jackets, khaki dresses and knitted cardigans.
2016
Gigi Hadid rocks the autumn/winter 2016 catwalk in nautical-themed clothes – we’re talking sailor tops, navy jackets and white skirts.
