Editor review: body lotions

By Lauren Carbran

Why was my life super-exciting this week? Well, I tested out five body lotions that are big for Christmas. And as someone who almost always forgets about applying body lotion (I know, terrible, right!?), I was shocked at what I’ve been missing out on…

prada-la-femme-lotionMonday: Prada La Femme Prada Body Lotion

The Monday morning alarm rings. Status update: snooze is my best friend forever. After another warm, snuggly 20 minutes in bed, I run into the shower, knocking over everything in my path. The first perfumed body lotion I’m testing is Prada La Femme Prada and it feels soft and smooth as I apply it. At first, you can smell the sweet notes of vanilla and beeswax, then the floral tuberose and ylang-ylang comes through. And at that moment I’m instantly more positive about my Monday (even though it hasn’t even started yet). Fast-forward to 15:45 in the office and I’m still smelling fab. ‘Mmm, what perfume are you wearing?’ asks my colleague. ‘No, no, I’m wearing Prada body lotion,’ I reply. When evening strikes, I make my way into town for dinner with friends, spritzing with Prada La Femme Prada EDP on the way. It’s definitely a stronger, more intense scent when layered with the lotion, but I love it for the extra compliments. Bliss! This is a 5* body lotion for me. It made my Monday feel like a Friday – what could be better?

paco-rabanne-olympeaTuesday: Paco Rabanne Olympéa Body Lotion

The scents of mandarin, ginger lily and sandalwood in my Paco Rabanne Olympéa lotion prevent my senses from being assaulted by body odours during my train journey to work (#winning). Instead of seeing the views of building works as I depart Marylebone Station, I’m transported to a spa in Bali, where life is peaceful and my back massage is about to start. Ooh, how nice! The cheapest (and shortest journey) to a holiday destination ever. Once I’m in the office, I feel uplifted and relaxed. It’s not an overpowering smell but rather a fresh, sensual blend. For me, it’s the sandalwood that takes centre-stage. And as I head to bed after watching last night’s episode of Made In Chelsea, I have an urge to reapply Olympéa in the morning. It kind of frustrates me that I can’t…

angel-lotionWednesday: Thierry Mugler Angel Body Lotion

Hump day is here and I’m testing out Thierry Mugler Angel body lotion. There could be worse Wednesdays, right? Correct. In fact, my Wednesday turns into a PARTAY when the aromas of caramel, vanilla and praline hit my skin. It’s a wow moment. Why? I’ve never, ever smelt this good from head to toe before. I feel like I want to run down the streets and ask people to sniff me, but that would be weird. The other thing that this body lotion makes me want to do is book a booth in a nightclub, pronto. It smells like a Christmas party in a bottle and I want to keep it in my handbag (and life) forever.

issey-miyake-leau-dissey-otionThursday: Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey Body Lotion

OMG, I am way too excited to try out the Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey body lotion. Why? I’m a massive fan of Issey Miyake fragrances (specifically, Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey Pure). And people, this is MY kind of body lotion. It’s delicate and subtle and oozes rose, lily and lotus. Yes, if you hadn’t already guessed, I’m a floral fan. And to give the smell a little boost, I spritz Pure in the morning and afternoon. I take it with me around London to afternoon tea with colleagues and drinks with an old friend. Together, the scents are so sophisticated that I want to smell like this all the time. I love.

jimmychoolotionFriday: Jimmy Choo Body Lotion

Not only has my Friday come around so quickly (time goes fast when you’re having THE BEST WEEK EVER), but the Jimmy Choo body lotion sits on my dressing table, waiting to be worn. I can’t wait to try it (and guess what, I didn’t even press snooze this morning – massive achievement). I apply it to my skin and it smells like melted toffee, orange and pear. Gorgeous! What girl wouldn’t want to smell as sweet as this? It’s sugary notes even give me a sweet tooth, so for a snack I buy myself a chocolate brownie. My Friday is definitely a FRI-YAY, and it’s all down to you, Jimmy Choo…
